So. A dear friend of mine wrote a poem to be made into a picture book. Now if you know anything about publishing, you know that an agent will only take a piece of writing with illustrations if the writer and illustrator are the same person.
This truly sucks.
You know why it sucks? Because the author gets absolutely no say in the art for their book. And unfortunately, my friend is very particular about art. She has a certain image in her head for all her work, and hates the fact that she can't choose her artist. But, she submitted it anyway to an agent and either unfortunately, or fortunately, the agent she submitted to isn't taking picture books at this time.
What does this have to do with me? Well, I got bored the other day and felt, out of no where, like doing some charcoal drawing. And so, I drew a little illustration based on her poem. She loved it and gave her OK for me to keep going. So now I'm in the process of making an entire pitch book out of her poem. And in the past two days, I've done the page layout, beat thumbs, and completed ten drawings for this poem. I have such a good feeling about this project, and I don't know why.
I wont be posting anything here, though. I'm very anal about portfolio work. Especially now that the Orphan Rights Act has been passed. (BULLSHIT!!!!) Also, in order to do that I would have to post her poem as well, which she would......well.....she may in fact kill me if I did....
So yes. I have been actually been busy. And I'm enjoying myself immensely.
On another note, I submitted a resume to the local paper for a graphic design position. For those of you who pray, could you say one for me? I could use it. ;_;
